Roy, probably about 25 mens clothing & shoes, 20 women, baby clothes lots. ITs hard to know sizes as we don’t know every person.

Anne! We will take all of it. You can drop it by the Mexico table in the bins this weekend at the Missions expo in the community hall. Or in the HS room after that. We will be collecting goods all the way until we go so just check in with on continued needs. Money Donations can be put in the tithe & offering box in the HS room or in the coin cans this weekend. My email is mach@bridgewaychristian.org for any other questions.

Hi Susan,

The International Dinner event actually took place last weekend, but we are having a regular Journeys gathering tonight. We meet at 6:30 pm in the Hub chapel. That is on the north side of Bridgeway’s campus, and you’ll see at “Journeys” banner outside. Let me know if you have any questions, and we hope to see you there!

Peace,

Brian

Halloween Traditions

Posted by Jason Stewart (Staff) in Bridgeway Christian Church
Comment from Jason Stewart (Staff):

Thank you, everyone, for the comments and dialogue. I am excited about the thoughts I read here and the questions. As we approach this holiday in our culture, I want to share a post with you from a friend who is a Family Pastor in Texas.

I am having some great conversations with many of you around this topic. There are some great questions on how our family walks into the the tension of engaging our culture for Jesus (vs staying in the ends of the spectrum of conforming to the culture or avoiding culture). I find that how we engage this holiday and other aspects of this culture are not as black and white as we would like for it to be.

Here are some quotes from the the post, Instilling Identity in your Kids this Halloween, that stood out to me (I hope you will take five minutes to read and reflect):

  • …not about convincing you that one way to celebrate is better than another.
  • The small shift from “you” to “we” is a powerful one.
  • The principle that our activity flows from our identity is seen throughout Scripture, where God frequently reminds us who we are before telling us how to live.
  • Starting with identity rather than activity is one way that we can parent our kids as God parents us.

Yesterday, I had the question “with doing this in your neighborhood on Halloween, how do you help your kids with the scary costumes and things of the holiday?” We are discerning. We trust God that He will lead us as parents and protect us while we as a family represent Him to the people around us. Just as this post gives an example, we take time to discuss what we value as a family found in Scripture and in the life of Jesus.

The truth of who we are determines what we do is foundational in every aspect for me and my family. That is why we have taken the time to put words to who we are and teach this to our children (and remind ourselves as parents). This helps us navigate our hearts and actions as a family. It gives greater purpose and intentionality to our days for the Gospel.

Bridgeway Christian Church is a real church for real people. You’ll find an accepting atmosphere focused on genuine worship and messages that will apply to your everyday life.

Fashion is unimportant so just come as you are. You’ll see everything from shorts and sandals to slacks and button down shirts. Children’s programs are provided during the weekend services and include a structured program for your kids to learn about the Bible.
